Activity Centres and Tangata Whaiora Groups

Able Minds facilitates Activity Centres and Groups which are formalised meetings where those with mental distress and/or addiction can come for peer support but also to actively focus on their recovery by learning new life and vocational skills to build self-esteem and confidence.

They are proven groups led by lived experience Coordinators supporting people to reconnect with their community.

Thursday mornings is our Foodshare programme, if you have a desire to give back to and support people in your local community then this may be the thing for you. We receive a delivery of rescued food from Kiwiharvest, this food is then made up in to food parcels and delivered to families who are in need of some short-term support.
This is a very popular activity here at the centre and our members enjoy being a part of the process!

Thursday 1pm - 3pm

Gardening Group

We have a large vegetable garden and a glasshouse here at Able Minds. If you are a keen gardener, no matter your experience level feel free to join us. Thursday afternoons our gardening group meet to discuss future plans for the garden and decide what we are going to be planting each season, as well as getting out there and getting those green thumbs dirty. The garden is available any day for you to come in and potter around as often as you like.

Friday 9am - 1.30pm

Cooking & Shared Lunch

Every Friday we have a cooking group and shared lunch. If you would like to learn how to cook or build on the skills you already have then come along and join us in the kitchen. We try to focus on reasonably cheap, healthy and nutritious meals that are easy to make but tasty to eat.
The best part is all sitting down together to eat what we have created!
